How I Work
I believe that the most effective therapy comes from being able to first create a trusting and supportive relationship with the therapist. Then, together, we find ways to help you understand who you are and what you want and need in your life. I offer support and guidance, and I’ll never tell you what you have to do to reach your goals. Instead, I ask you to be open to new ideas and feedback; to rent an idea that may help you find relief and growth – not buying it until you’ve had a chance to think about it or try it out in your life.
I believe that you are looking for more than just a cheerleader as you do your work, and I am more than willing to be that source of support. As you begin or continue your path to healing and recovery, it is important to understand the role your history has played in shaping you and your life today. This is not about blaming the people or situations in your past but rather taking an honest look at what happened and seeing what effect it had on you.
You may feel like you never truly learned how to recognize who you are and what you need or want. This often leads to lack of self-esteem, fears, inability to trust others or even yourself, and difficulty communicating in relationships. Sometimes, not really knowing yourself creates a hole that you may try to fill with addictive or compulsive behaviors, like shopping, eating, sex, pornography, gambling or drugs and alcohol abuse. But, with the right guidance and support, it is possible to discover a path to change and a more peaceful life.
Our work together will help you make the changes necessary to heal and move past those patterns you have used to survive that are no longer working for you.
We’ll approach the issues you are facing from a variety of angles, revisiting and tailoring our strategy as needed to develop a solution that works for you. Meaningful, lasting change comes when you grow and change at your own pace and in your own time and way.
My goal is to help you better understand the challenges you are facing, recognize that you have the ability to respond to difficult issues and develop new techniques and strategies to deal with them.
If unhealthy patterns or addictive behaviors are keeping you stuck and unhappy, I offer a safe, confidential environment to process your experiences and better understand the reasons behind them. Whether you are dealing with relationship issues, challenges in your personal life or struggling to recover from addictive behavior, it is possible to discover who you are and find a path to healing.
I offer daytime sessions starting as early as 9:00am and most evenings if you have conflicts during standard business hours. I currently don’t accept insurance, but I am happy to provide a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If you would like to schedule an appointment and begin working toward your individual or relationships goals or if you have any questions about how I work, I invite you to call my office at (909) 815-0762.
